How to Adopt a Pet Phoenix

Adopt a Cat

Are you ready to take home a lovable little ball of fur? All of our cats have received a medical examination, spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, a microchip and a whole lot of tender loving care. Have a look at our adoptable cats and for more information, check out our Thinking of Adopting page to learn more about the process.

Special Needs Cats

Cats with the designation FeLV+ suffer from the feline leukemia virus and have special needs. FeLV+ can cause serious illnesses such as anemia and lymphoma, and may compromise a cat’s immune system. Some cats that are FeLV positive do not suffer any symptoms at all but are latent carriers. This is the case for about half of all adult cats that are FeLV positive. The life expectancy of an FeLV+ cat depends on many factors but the good news is that many live a long life if they’re kept healthy and cared for.

If you adopt a cat Scottsdale that’s FeLV+, make sure that you have a good relationship with a veterinarian and that you’re able to observe the cat for changes in health, appetite or behavior. The cat needs to be fed a nutritious diet and certain foods should be avoided. It’s likely that your vet will recommend wellness visits at least twice a year.

FIV stands for feline immunodeficiency virus. It’s a less serious virus but it also suppresses a cat’s immune system. An FIV+ cat is at higher risk for other feline infections especially as the cat gets older. Unlike FeLV, there is no risk for serious diseases like lymphoma and anemia.

Adopt a Dog

There’s a reason they say dogs are man’s (and woman’s) best friend. Dogs make trusting, loyal companions that are always there for you. Here are dogs available for adoption today that are waiting for a caring home to call their own.

Each dog has received a medical examination, spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, a microchip and plenty of TLC (tender loving care). They’re all ready to take home today!

How to Adopt a Pet

Our mission at Foothills Animal Rescue is to match our rescued animals with loving families who can give them the home they need. When you adopt one of our animals, you not only give it a home, but also free up space so that Foothills Animal Rescue can take in more homeless animals and give them the care they need. By adopting, you’re helping us save lives.

All of our animals have received a full medical examination, spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, a microchip and plenty of tender loving care. We have both cats and dogs ready for adoption today.

We want the adoption process to be as quick and easy as possible so that you can take home your new companion today. It takes just a few simple steps and you’re done!

Step 1 – Submit Online or Print and fill out an Adoption Application to bring with you when you visit or complete an Online Adoption Application from the comforts of your computer.

Step 2 – Visit the Foothills Animal Rescue shelter for an interview with one of our adoption counselors. We need to make sure that you’ll provide the loving home our animal companions need.

Step 3 – Choose the animal you want to make your new companion.

For dogs, we offer dog intros where they can meet other family pets and home visits where they can see their new home and get comfortable with their new surroundings. When you adopt a dog Phoenix animal companion, you’re making a new addition to your family, so it’s important that we meet the whole family as well. These steps aren’t offered for cats.
